Ranking Catalina Crunch Cereals

Catalina Crunch is a cereal brand that focuses on high protein low sugar. It was created by a type 1 diabetic, and focuses on making not just cereals but snacks, granolas, and cookies for others with similar diets. Of all the protein cereals I’ve tried, Catalina crunch is by far the best, they’re just consistently good.

These cereals are all lactose and gluten free. Though I don’t know specifically about the facility that they were made in. Some of the cereals with mix-ins also have nuts, and so do most of the granolas and snack mixes.

6 – Dark Chocolate

6/10
”Tastes just a little bit funny…”

The Dark chocolate is one of the first that I tried. I like it, it’s not my favorite (obviously) it does have the strongest our of all of them the artificial sweetener taste. It’s still a good chocolate flavor though, and I would buy it again.

5 – Honey Graham

6.5/10
”I taste nothing.”

The main problem I had with the Honey Graham was that it really didn’t have much of a flavor. It smells really good, but there’s no flavor whatsoever. It has a slight honey aftertaste, and the milk afterwards tastes a little sweet but that’s it.

4 – Chocolate Peanut Butter

7/10
”A little funky, isn’t it?”

This one’s the first that I tried. Chocolate Peanut butter tends to always be my favorite combo, so I was pretty disappointed with this. It has a distinct artificial taste, but there’s peanut butter definitely overrules it. Still, it’s a good cereal flavor.

3 – Fruity

9/10
”Who knew I liked fruity cereal?”

I’ve never been a big fan of fruity cereal, but this is really good! My favorite part is the different textures, and flavors. I think it adds a lot that some are textured differently than others because it just makes the overall eating experience a lot better. There’s also no artificial taste, and it’s flavorful!

2 – Maple Waffle

9.5/10
”Too lazy to make waffles.”

This has really good flavor, and it’s very similar to my number one. I think the mix of the waffle crumble and the maple taste is great, and the cereal stays pretty crunch in the milk, which is a nice bonus.

1 – Cinnamon

10/10
”I’d eat every morning for breakfast.”

The flavor here is so good. I was definitely very skeptical about the cinnamon taste, but it’s actually amazing. It stays pretty crunch too, and similar to the waffle one, it leaves the milk with a great cinnamon taste afterwards. Would highly recommend.

I am aware that I did not include the two mix in flavors; blueberry muffin and honey nut. I also did not include season flavors such as apple cider donut and pumpkin spice. If those are ones you think i should include comment, and I definitely will try to get my hands on them anyways and include them!

Every Pure Protein flavor Ranked

Pure Protein is a protein brand that does bars, chips, shakes, and powders. You can go to their website here.

Nutrition

Each bar is advertised as gluten free, though they were all made in a facility that manufactures wheat. Many of the bars also contain nuts. As someone who is lactose intolerant, I can do the bars fine. But if you are lactose intolerant, just be aware that many of the bars use whey protein concentrate, which contains higher levels of lactose than what I prefer, whey protein isolate.

13 – Sundae Cone

1/10
“Tastes like death”

These are incredibly artificial tasting, to the point where it’s hard to get down. It has a very sour, unappealing aftertaste that takes quite a while to get out of your mouth. The texture is equally as bad, since it’s very crunchy and chewy.

12 – Cookies and Cream

3/10
”Who spiked my Oreo?”

This one’s not nearly as bad, the texture is actually pretty nice. The only main problem is the aftertaste, and honestly just the overall taste. It’s very sour, and the artificial sugar taste is very intense, so something I tend to really not like.

11 – Birthday Cake

4/10
”Not-so-happy Happy Birthday”

The taste in the birthday cake isn’t that bad, just overall pretty bland. Again, it has an artificial sweet taste, but it’s not nearly as intense as the previous two. The sprinkles add a nice texture, but it’s the frosting taste that I just don’t really enjoy.

10 – Brookie

4.5/10
”Brownie and what?”

This tastes nothing like a Brookie, but it still tastes fine. The chocolate is good, and the texture is pretty nice. The two flavors kind of separate, and the cookie part just mostly tastes like artificial sweetener, but not too intensely.

9 – Caramel Churro

5/10
”You got what instead of churros?”

The main problem with this flavor is the little chunks on the top, they don’t really add anything except for a strong artificial taste. The overall taste of the bar is good though, and the caramel definitely saves a lot of the flavor. Watch out though if you order the bars because the caramel can ooze out.

8 – Chocolate Salted Caramel

5.5/10
”SALTED caramel”

I had really high hopes for this bar, because it seemed like you can’t go wrong with chocolate and caramel. But the caramel is really salty, and I just didn’t enjoy how overpowering the salt was to everything else, it unbalanced the flavor. Besides that though there’s no artificial sugar flavor.

7 – Lemon Cake

6/10
”Makes me want a lemon loaf”

I actually really like the lemon flavor in this bar, to compare I would say it’s very similar to a Luna bar, but it does have a little bit of an artificial aftertaste. The texture is really good though, and again I like the lemon flavor.

6 – Chocolate Mint Cookie

6.5/10
”Thin Mint in bar form?”

This one was almost tied with the lemon bar, but I put it ahead mostly because the chocolate is spot on, and theres a great ratio of mint to chocolate. The only thing I’m a little bit less into is the frosting on the top, it just feels unnecessary, but it does give good mint flavor.

5 – Chewy Chocolate Chip

7/10
”That’s not a cookie on the box. Cookies are round.”

There’s nothing wrong with this bar. It’s got a good flavor, the cookie taste obviously doesn’t taste like a cookie, but it doesn’t taste bad. The chocolate taste isn’t as much as I’d like, and there’s a little of a artificial taste.

4 – Galactic Brownie

8/10
”Gluten Free Galactic Brownie”

This honestly just tastes like a chocolate bar. Almost zero artificial flavor taste, and there’s little frosting bit just tastes like more chocolate. I really like Pure Protein chocolate flavors, so this was an easy number four for me.

3 – Chocolate Peanut Butter

9/10
”My two loves in bar form”

I love peanut butter, and I love chocolate so this bar was easy to like. There’s no artificial taste, and I like the little chunks of peanut in the bar. Perfect, and tastes like a candy bar.

2 – Chocolate Deluxe

9.5/10
“Rather eat than make brownies”

Tastes like the galactic brownie one, except a million times better. It’s perfectly fudgy, not artificial at all, has a great taste, and I like the amount of chew it gives. It doesn’t have a weird frosting or anything, so I like the simplicity of it all.

1 – Chocolate Peanut Caramel

10/10
“If you didn’t tell me, I’d think it’s a snickers.”

Literally so perfect. Tastes so much like a snickers, and feels like I’m eating a candy bar, not a protein bar. Definitely the best of everything. The peanuts add a great texture too, and the balance is perfect.

These are all the flavors I could get my hands on, I am aware that there are four flavors of the main type that I was unable to get to try. Those are Zig Zag Zebra Cake, Cocoa Pebbles, Fruity Pebbles, and Strawberry Greek yogurt. If I can get to try those, I will include them in the ranking!
